Empowering students with disabilities to participate and learn

With the support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), students with disabilities in Rwanda are provided opportunities to learn and interact with their peers without disabilities. Ester Dusabimana is one of the students with disabilities who have been supported and her story is perfect evidence that indeed disability is not inability. Ester was born without any difficulty with no indication that she would become visually impaired. However, when she turned 12 and reached Senior 2, she become blind. Ester became so discouraged and she wanted to drop out of school. Ester was provided with material and a teacher to train her to read and write braille. She is now conversant with braille with more confidence and optimistic about her future.
